Got an idea? Let’s grow it.

What if the next big leap forward for the nursery industry started with a scribble on your glovebox notepad – or a thought you had during smoko?

Maybe it’s something you’ve been saying for years.

Maybe it’s a small fix that could make a big difference.

Maybe it’s just a ‘someone should…’ idea that hasn’t gone away.

Whatever it is, we want to hear it.

How to submit an idea

➡️ You can:

Want to be more involved?

If you're a grower, you can also join GIA’s Investment Committees for R&D and marketing. It’s a hands-on way to help shape what gets funded and why.

You don’t need the solution

You don’t need a university partner. You don't need to be an expert. You don’t even need to know if someone else has already suggested it. Just tell us:

  • what needs fixing
  • what could make a difference
  • what you wish someone had tackled sooner.

A few lines is plenty. We’ll help shape the idea into something that can be assessed – and if it stacks up, we’ll help you get it funded.

Woman submitting an idea
Every investment decision goes through a clear, fair process – and growers help shape what gets funded. The focus is on practical ideas that deliver value where it counts.

What happens next?

You submit your idea – big or small, all are welcome.

The GIA Ideas Committee reviews it – made up of experienced industry people from across the country.

If it aligns with industry needs, it’s put forward to one of two expert panels (Marketing or R&D).

If approved, Hort Innovation funds it – using your levy (and in the case of R&D, matched by the government).

Why it’s worth it

  • Your idea might benefit the whole sector – not just your nursery.
  • Every R&D dollar you contribute is doubled by the government.
  • This is a system that only works if growers get involved.
